About…
“Carpe…carpe diem…Seize the day, boys; make your lives extraordinary.”
–Professor Keating, played by Robin Williams in the film Dead Poets’ Society
This site’s primary purpose is to help Mr. Rice’s Honors English I, AP English Literature, and Theater Arts students at the Christian Academy of Louisville make their days count in (and out) of the classroom. Click on the links for class pages and documents and prepare to “seize the day!”
Although the Latin phrase “carpe diem” has enjoyed renewed popularity due to the film Dead Poets’ Society, the philosophy has existed for over two thousand years. Its origin is attributed to first-century B.C. Roman poet and philosopher Horace in his work Odes, Book I, ode xi:
Latin: “Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero.”
English: “Seize the day, put no trust in the morrow!”
Make the most of every moment,
Never forgetting for whom you live
Because He died yet lives for you.
